Finishing the First Trimester
My pregnancy is going well. I have not had too much trouble with morning sickness, but there are certainly times I do not want to eat, or just that the food does not sit well in my stomach. Still, this is the easiest time I have had in the first trimester, of all my babies.
I cannot really eat much meat, only because the taste just seems to bother me. So, for protein, I have had to turn to eggs…which is not great, but tastes better than meat. I have also had a taste for Asian noodles—well, I always have a taste for Asian noodles, but now it seems like it is one of the few things that I enjoy—but I have to be careful with carbohydrates. Just a little bit of rice or noodles immediately puts weight on. I really might have had gestational diabetes which developed during the pregnancy with Silouan, who was 12 pounds, but did not know it.
The other issue I am keeping my eyes on is my back, which I injured a year and a half ago. I am trying to be careful with my weight to try to avoid the complications it might cause with my back. Not much trouble for now, but I am not big yet, either.
I am keeping a close eye on those issues, but besides all that, everything is fine. I am thankful for this little one. Especially after the miscarriage scare, I have learned to be thankful that we have a healthy baby growing. The kids just asked today how big the baby was, and we pulled out a ruler and showed them three inches. Just picturing a little three-inch baby inside mom put a smile on their faces.
Elena has started helping more in the kitchen, which is a big relief for me as I plan for the birth. When the baby arrives, I know I will have some help putting food on the table. Silouan is really excited about the baby, too. He even had a dream last night that he was holding a baby version of himself in his arms. He has it on his mind, for sure. Ioann may not say much, but you can tell he is thinking about everything that is going on, and he always does so well with little ones.
We are passing into the second trimester now, and we continue to pray that all will continue to go well. Glory to God.
